Scaredy Cat
Sometimes cats become very nervous and difficult to examine and work with. For these special situations, we like to make it as easy on the patient and our staff as possible. One way to do this is to use an inhalant anesthetic (isoflurane or sevoflurane) to sedate the patient so that a thorough exam can be performed. This procedure includes transferring the cat from its carrier to a clear container that allows a mixture of oxygen and inhalant anesthetic to flow in. During inspiration, this mixture enters the respiratory tract and causes sedation. It often takes around 10-15 minutes for them to reach a very relaxed state. After the procedure is finished, the cat is transferred back to its carrier and rapidly awakens back to normal because the anesthetic leaves the body through the respiratory tract during exhalation. This procedure is very safe and makes the trip to the doctor much easier on your pet. Please let us know if you are interested in this for your kitty!
