Our Health Care Team

Most of our team members are cross-trained over several months so that each person can do at least some aspects of most positions (exam room nurse, boarding patient care, grooming, treatments, ICU nurse, radiology, reception duties, etc.)  Missy is the exception, in that she spends nearly all of her time at the front desk.  She would do an excellent job as a nurse, but she is fantastic as our head receptionist, so she mans the gate.  We strive to provide the best care for our patients by working as a team.  This page was created for you to get to know our team members so you are comfortable with the people who take care of your pets.  Each of our employees is a cat lover and will do their best for your kitty!!!

To learn more about what each person does, separate pages have been created with "A Day in the Life of..." theme.  Simply click on a person's name below to go to the page (you can also do this for the doctors).  The jobs shown are not limited to that particular individual but may give you a small glimpse inside the daily workings of The Cat's Meow Veterinary Hospital.

Before joining our team, Missy had worked in the veterinary field for around 5 years.  She started out wanting to work with animals and was employed at a clinic helping in the kennels.  From there, she was transferred to the reception area.  We happened upon Missy after she had moved to the Fort Worth area and was at a part-time job outside of the veterinary field.  We met her and decided she would fit in, and we are certainly glad she joined our team.  She has been fantastic taking care of our front office.

As receptionist, Missy is often the first person our clients speak to on the phone and in the clinic.  She stays very busy answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, checking patients in and out, and acting as liaison between owners and doctors or staff.  She organizes numerous charts and forms, sends and receives faxes (lab results, medical records, etc.), and takes care of written and oral reminders (for clients and our team members).  There are so many miscellaneous tasks we ask her to do that there is not enough room here to list them all!  Missy is great at remaining calm and friendly and professional even when she is very busy, and she provides a stable foundation by taking care of the many front desk responsibilities consistently, efficiently, and completely.

Her main goal in life is to be happy.  She has a wonderful fiance, Scott, and shares a home with 2 cats, a dog, and two finches.  She collects things with dragonflies and Dallas Cowboys.  She likes fashion, celebrity news, and loves being outside.  Outdoor activities (swimming, camping, road trips, etc) are what she prefers.  She loves to vacation in Mexico.  Her life certainly sounds happy...hopefully she's living her goal!

Roman is a little miracle kitty.  He survived being hit by a car that fractured his palate!

Tudicus AKA Tudey (because he originally had an attitude)

This little guy was a litter runt that barely survived (the rest of the litter did not) and was bottle fed.  He has a cleft lip,

one eye grown shut from severe respiratory disease as a kitten, and is underweight, but he makes up for it in feistiness!

Linty (named because she looked like a ball of lint when she was a kitten)

Born in Illinois, Kris finally made it to Texas, where it is hot and sunny, like she prefers.  She enjoys flower gardening, riding motorcycles, and just being out in the sunshine.  Her absolute favorite thing to do, though, is to curl up on the sofa with a good book, a cup of flavored coffee, and a kitty (or 2 or 3 or...)  Add a crackling fire in cool weather, and she's in heaven!  Aside from staying busy with those activities and work, she enjoys church and spending time with her pets.  She currently has 9 cats, 2 dogs, and 1 parrot.  She collects anything and everything to do with cats (even cats themselves!)

Professionally, Kris is a Registered Veterinary Technician and has joined us already armed with knowledge and skills.  She has worked at various veterinary hospitals as well as a veterinary emergency hospital, but she is very excited about limiting her time to only working with cats (her true passion).  She is using her skills as nurse in the exam rooms as well as helping during surgery and caring for the boarding and hospitalized kitties.  She will TRULY pamper your pet during its stay at The Cat's Meow!

Kris is very personable and laid-back.  You will have no trouble talking her her about your kitty's health care (or just generally talking).

Bella

Nicole has been in the veterinary field since 1999.  She absolutely loves cats and veterinary medicine.  She has worked with both cats and dogs (but really prefers cats!).  Benecia Cat Clinic (California) was fortunate to have her on staff for 3 years, so Nicole is not new to the feline-exclusive field.  One of her main hobbies/talents includes fostering little bitty kittens until they are old enough to be placed into loving homes.

Born in Colorado and raised in the California bay area, Nicole really loves a real pine forest and cool weather (Texas is a bit difficult for her, as it is with many people!)  Her favorite season is winter..."when I'm cold, I'm happy," and she likes to go to the mountains for vacation.  Her dream is to eventually end up in the area of Mount Rainier, Washington.  The light of her life is her adorable son, Anthony.  Outside of work and playing with her son and cats, she likes to write and draw.  The fantasy and dragon genre suit her as far as books go, and she enjoys all forms of art, particularly realism.

Nicole is a jack of all trades.  She is involved in surgery, treatments (she loves intensive care and challenging internal medicine cases), exam rooms, and kennels.  Currently, she is our main surgical nurse and dental hygienist (for cleaning, polishing, and fluoride treatments on our patients' teeth).  As part of the position, she maintains the surgery equipment including the laser, anesthetic machines, and instruments.  She is also in charge of the radiology department (taking care of the x-ray machine, cassettes, film, and developing processor).

Nicole has 3 cats, Tucker, Nemo, and Bella (and a Beta fish, Rango). Tucker was a bottle-fed baby and is now a young senior.  Nemo and Bella are 2009 models.  Nicole is crazy for long-haired cats, especially black & white and orange & white.  If you have a long-haired kitty (especially B&W or O&W), be prepared for her to fawn over it!

Cindy joined our hospital in May, 2010 after many years in the veterinary field.  Like Nicole, she is originally from California and is not necessarily a big fan of the heat here in Texas.  She has an ever-changing number of pets in her house, as she frequently fosters cats and dogs.  Her 2 children are her joy.  Like Dr. Bean and Missy, she considers herself a beach bum.  She would live near the ocean if she could (she already collects sea shells and loves ocean-inspired scents, arts, magazines, etc).  In fact, marine animal rehab and beach clean up is one of her aspirations.  Something interesting about Cindy is that she is a huge fan of rock concerts.  It's unbelievable the number she has already attended (mostly rock...can we say, "raised in the '80s?!")

Because of her experience, she came to The Cat's Meow already filled with veterinary knowledge and skills.  Like most of our team members, she is cross-trained to fill most positions in the hospital.  Cindy currently works mornings (and afternoons on Tuesdays when Missy is off).  She and Nicole switch off as surgical nurse, but you would most likely see her working in the exam rooms with Dr. Bean.

Susan Marie Allen

Miss Coco and Yammy

Loving and helping animals has been a lifelong passion of Susan's.  Susan has worked in the veterinary field since 1998, when she took a part-time job at a local vet clinic as a receptionist.  That first vet job was such a great experience that she hasn't wanted to do anything else since, and she quickly progressed to her current role as a Veterinary Nurse.  Susan enjoys her work immensely and feels it is vital to work in a clinic she can be proud of, which is one reason she likes her job at The Cat's Meow so much.

A big part of Susan's life is assisting with wildlife rehabilitation, and she hopes to eventually obtain her certification in that field.  She is a member of Wildcare, Inc., and works as a "sub-rehabilitator" under a fully licensed exotic-animal vet here in Fort Worth.  Most of her rehabbers are injured or baby birds and squirrels who usually recover and are released back into the wild.  Sometimes the rehab residents seem to realize they have it pretty good living with her and choose not to leave.  That is how she acquired her two "pet" squirrels, "Yammy," a big 3.5 pound male Southern Fox Squirrel, and his foxy female companion, "Miss Coco."  These two darlings have become loved and pampered family pets.  Susan exclaims, "you haven't known love until you've been loved by a squirrel!"

Susan has no human children but sees her animals as her furry kids.  They include a senior citizen dachshund, "Val," and the best tabby kitty in the world, "Miss Evangeline Valentine" or "EV."  Her beloved animals are the most important things in Susan's life, and she is devoted to them.

After 26 years of marriage, Susan recently found herself single again.  She rebounded quickly and developed a new life for herself, of which she is proud she was able to do.  She spends as much time as possible with her animal friends and loves to do anything that involves greenery and the outdoors, including fiddling with her plants and going on walks around downtown Fort Worth, where she has an apartment.  One of Susan's main food groups is Starbucks!
