Digital radiography is a form of X-ray imaging, where digital X-ray sensors are used instead of traditional photographic film. This has the advantage of allowing the doctors to immediately review images and determine if the best shot was acquired (just like with a digital camera). In addition, less radiation is required to produce an image of similar contrast to conventional film radiography.
The Cat's Meow Veterinary Hospital uses digital radiography for both dental and diagnostic purposes.
The diagnostic imaging system we use is the Idexx I-Vision CR system. Images are captured on cartridges and subsequently inserted into a scanner. Processing only takes a few seconds.
For dental imaging we use a much smaller scanner that is nearly identical to what dentists use. The receiver is placed on one side of the jaw and the X-Ray generator on the other.
The ability to quickly obtain radiographic images assists in allowing The Cat's Meow to provide the best diagnostic treatments possible.
